Rosetta Technologies Offers MICR Toner and Printers Optimized for IRD Printing
- Promark Printing System reduces reject rates from 4-5% to 0.1% -
Tampa, FL - January 12, 2009
Rosetta Technologies, a leading provider of desktop, workgroup and production MICR printers and software solutions, today announced the availability of the Promark™ MICR Printing System. Comprised of a new MICR toner and specially-engineered versions of Rosetta Technologies’ MICR printers, the Promark system is optimized for MICR printing in the most demanding environments where minimizing reader/sorter reject rates is especially important.
High-speed reader/sorters subject items to friction and very high temperatures, which can cause MICR toner to lift from the page and build up on the reader/sorter’s components. In certain situations, such as substitute check processing (also known as Image Replacement Documents or IRDs), a high percentage of processed items are printed with laser MICR toner. This rapidly degrades reader/sorter performance, resulting in average reject rates of 4-5% or more, and requiring greater equipment maintenance. Conversely, items printed using Promark MICR toner and printers consistently yield reject rates less than 0.1%.
“High-performance MICR toner has been a holy grail of the banking industry since the invention of laser MICR printing nearly three decades ago. Recently it has become a mission-critical challenge for many Rosetta customers, especially in IRD printing and processing.” said Rob Hullar, President, Rosetta Technologies. “In both independent testing and production use, Promark has performed like ink. This is a real breakthrough, and has allowed item processors to maximize reader/sorter uptime, reduce equipment maintenance, and eliminate a lot of manual effort dealing with rejects.”
The foundation of the Promark MICR Printing System is the Promark MICR Toner. Promark MICR Toner’s polyester base, combined with other proprietary elements, give it much stronger cohesion properties than traditional polystyrene toners. This reduces smearing and lift during processing. In order to fully optimize performance, Rosetta developed Promark versions of several of its MICR printer models specifically to work with Promark toner.
