MICR Performance and the Relationship to MICR Toner Adhesion
Written By: James C. Maher, Richard Chatfield, Francisco Aponte & Daniel Charles
MICR laser printing demands a higher performance level than non-MICR printing. Images cannot simply look good, but require magnetic characteristics that can be read by commercial high-speed readers. Abrasion during check post-processing causes the MICR documents to deteriorate; therefore toner adhesion is very significant.
This paper reports on the development of a metric which uses a time-tested method of measuring toner adhesion, namely the 'tape transfer test.' The metric relates these test results to actual performance characteristics. It can be used as a reproducible response variable for relating process control variables to toner adhesion.
